Discouragement

Not too long ago I confessed to the Lord discouragement and lethargy in prayer and asked why?

The Psalmist struggled with this from time to time.  Psalm 42:5a  Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me?

What came to mind?  Little faith due to a divided focus – Jesus plus something.  It’s easy to begin looking to someone/something else for provision of a need, fulfillment, excitement, LIFE.  And He’s the sole source.

I Samuel 12:21 You must not turn aside (from following the Lord), for then you would go after futile things which cannot profit or deliver, because they are futile.

The other thing that came to mind was failing to ‘put feet to my prayers’ i.e. not giving myself wholeheartedly when He shows me how to be part of the answer.

The Psalmist’s answer is, “Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence.”  Ps. 42:5b

How do you hope in God when it seems like nothing is changing for the better and in fact is getting worse?  Stay focused on God by staying focused on His promises, like Romans 8:28; James 1:2-4; Psalm 23; Romans 8:32  and many more.

Do you keep a list and review the promises He’s given to you? He has proven Himself faithful!  Joshua 23:14 …not one word of all the good words which the LORD your God spoke concerning you has failed…
