Don’t Settle for Too Little
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” ― C.S. Lewis
Maybe even more grievous is us asking for ‘better mud’ (when God wants to give us a whole new life) and then measuring/evaluating God’s love and care for us by how closely and quickly He gives us what we ask! (Picture God’s people as slaves in Egypt praying for straw when God wanted to give them freedom.)
We are so timid and short sighted and of so little faith! We often have to spend all we have on our ‘solutions’ before we come to Him in desperation and ‘simply touch the hem of His garment’ to be healed/helped/delivered. (Mark 5:25-29)
He waits for us to come just as we are, in faith, expectant, yes – asking for what we think is good, but open and trusting Him to do the so much more of whatever He deems is best.
Will you come and really lay it all down at His feet?
