Don’t Worry About Anything
‘Be anxious for nothing…’! The Living Bible paraphrases it, ‘Don’t worry about anything…’ Philippians 4:6
What do you tend to worry about?
Note this is not just a suggestion for happier living; and it doesn’t include an ‘if you can’ clause. This is a command. How on earth…with the challenges of life…and the pain…and the mess…the suffering…the injustice…all the uncertainty…??
The verse goes on to tell us how, “but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
How do we stay free of worry? Pray. Pray about everything. And make requests; ask God for what you need. But do it with a willful focus on thanksgiving.
What do you have to be thankful for? For starters, He is the One who gives life and breath and all things to all people. (Acts 17:25) Look around you. Is there nothing you see that you can give thanks for? (Note it doesn’t say feel thankful; you can will to give thanks.)
Especially if you don’t feel thankful but even when you do, also thank Him for what you do not see – His unlimited love which is from eternity past to eternity future, His salvation which is so complete, His abiding presence, His promise of heaven when all this is over. Thank Him for the good He is working on your behalf. Romans 8:28
Pray with confidence, full assurance that He is and that He hears and that He cares and that He is well able to help.
Hebrews 11:6 … he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
With God help may you have a worry free (give the worries to God) and joyful week of giving thanks to our great Creator God.
