Never Ignore the Urge to Pray
When should I pray? All the time… 1 Thess. 5:17
On the face of it, that seems impossible and impractical. So I think of it more ‘as the attitude and posture of my heart.’ But even that seems too intangible.
I’m finding a very practical application is to simply take advantage of every impulse/reminder to pray – out loud and with others if appropriate but certainly silently and with the heart as well as conscious thought.
“Always respond to every impulse to pray. I would make an absolute law of this – always obey such an impulse. Where does it come from? It is the work of the Holy Spirit; it is a part of the meaning of ‘Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure’ (Phil 2:12-13).” Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Commit yourself to respond to every impulse to pray this week. I think you’ll be surprised at how often that is and how God delights in us as we do.
